“Dance of Death,” Munster of Bern

Bern, Switzerland, 1441-1450.  Part of the “Dance of Death” stained glass window there.  Dance of Death imagery first became popular during the Black Plague of the 1340’s, and persisted through the 1500’s.  These images serve as a memento mori, a reminder that Death takes all.
